Art studio news!

Move over discos, coloring clubs are taking over!

Yes, you heard correctly. Adults are now coloring. In clubs!

When IIIIIIII was a kid (in the totally awesome 80's), I fondly remember "stay home sick from school days."  I'd grab my coloring books, my grandma would grab me, and we'd shuffle off to her friend's house for the day.

Why grandma's friends' house, you ask? Well, my grandma was social networking waaaaay back then. She'd play Mahjong, poker, whatever the game of the day was, with her buddies and chat about Weight Watchers, kids and their next trip to watch Jai Alai (yes, I had one of THOSE grandmas!), while I recuperated from my runny nose on the couch, clutching a box of Kleenex, a box of Crayolas, and my stack of trusty coloring books.

Voila! By the end of the day, my coloring books were filled, and my cold waning. I was relaxed, and ready to get my sniffly nose back to school the next day.

I'm about to entangle the two scenarios I just mentioned, throw them in a jar, close the lid and shake.......

Fast forward to now. I know that there is still a need for adult social interaction, and we have Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Blinstagram, Pinstagram etc....which are fun and great and wonderful in their own ways....but what about getting together and actually meeting people in the same dimension? What about ditching the screens for an hour and a half, and just sitting around socializing with people in person, with no need to plug in, or search for the perfect emoticon to show our smile?

Introducing the Coloring Club. They are popping up all over the country - and they are helping people de-stress, unwind, relax, and yes, socialize! In a fun, carefree environment!

I'm not saying coming to the coloring club will make your sniffles go away, but it's very possible that it will take your mind off worries for awhile!

Maybe knitting is too time consuming, and jogging was never your thing....maybe coloring will lead to new friendships, new hobbies, and a relaxed state of mind!

You can start a coloring club in your community. It's quite easy. All you really need are some coloring books and some colored pencils. You can use crayons, paint - it's really up to you. There are a TON of adult coloring books on the market...beware, they may become an addiction!

If you don't know anyone who wants to join your club, check your community for local coloring clubs. Don't feel like doing it yourself? Leave it to us here at Key to My Art! We offer our Coloring Club on Thursdays from 1pm - 2:30pm. It's $10 a visit, and all materials are included! You can bring your coffee, something to nosh on, and settle down for some relaxing coloring and chatting :)

By the way, It's not just for grandma's.  I just like to remember my grandma in stories whenever I can :)

For more information, feel free to call us (929) ART - KEYS, or stop in! We are conveniently located at 10 West Oak Street in Amityville Village! We share a parking lot with the public library, so there is plenty of parking!

Have an artsy day!
